Enlistment and Training
Bobbie entered into the Navy at Hattiesburg, Mississippi on June 24, 1943. He was trained in Pensacola, Florida and then transferred to New York.
Service
Bobbie served in North Atlantic Theatre on the USS Turner (DD-648). His main job was to keep the ship clean but he had watch duties as well. He served for two voyages.
It is not certain what his first voyage was but it lasted for 13 days.
The second voyage lasted for forty days. On this voyage, the USS Turner departed from New York to join a convoy in Norfolk, Virginia. The USS Turner accompanied this convoy safely across the Atlantic. On the return voyage, the convoy split off into two groups and the USS Turner arrived and anchored in New York on January 2, 1944.
